The Texas Department of Transportation (TDOT) reports the following traffic impacts associated with the I-10 Widening West construction projects in El Paso, for the period from Saturday, March 7 through Saturday, March 14, 2026. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
I-10 Phase I
Saturday, March 7
From 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- I-10 westbound at Redd/Thorn exit (bypass lanes stay open)
Detour: Exit at Redd/Thorn, go on North Desert through the bypass, and get back on I-10 westbound before Redd.
Workers will install halo lights at Thorn.
Saturday, March 7 to Saturday, March 14
Daily, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (as needed)
Saturdays, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (as needed)
Lane changes on:
- I-10 eastbound and westbound between Vinton and Mesa (daily)
Workers will do general construction, clean up, paint lines, wash, and paint barriers on I-10. - North and South Desert between Vinton and Mesa
Workers will do general construction.
Sunday, March 8
Nightly, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- North Desert closed between Artcraft and Transmountain
Side streets closed on frontage road, including Artcraft ramps. Use Northwestern instead.
Workers will paint final lines on North Desert.
Monday, March 9
Nightly, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- North Desert closed between Redd and Artcraft
Side streets closed on frontage road, including Transmountain ramps. Use Northwestern instead.
Workers will paint final lines on North Desert.
Tuesday, March 10
Nightly, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- South Desert closed between Artcraft and Redd
Side streets closed on frontage road, including Redd ramps. Use Doniphan instead.
Workers will paint final lines on South Desert.
Wednesday, March 11
Nightly, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- South Desert closed between Los Mochis and Transmountain
Side streets closed on frontage road, including Transmountain ramps. Use Doniphan instead.
Workers will paint final lines on South Desert.
Thursday, March 12
Nightly, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- Redd intersection closed
Use North and South Desert to the next open intersection.
Workers will paint final lines at Redd intersection.
Ongoing Closure Until Further Notice (24/7)
Monday, June 9, 2025 to end of March 2026
- South Desert between Transmountain and Isela Rubalcava down to one lane
Transmountain west-to-east turnaround closed.
Detour: Go through Transmountain intersection.
Workers will rebuild the South Desert road.
I-10 Phase II
Sunday, March 8 to Saturday, March 14
Ongoing closure:
- Bridge C between Anthony and Vinton U-turn underpass closed
Detour: North Desert traffic goes to Anthony, TX and uses U-turn bridge. South Desert traffic goes to Vinton, TX and uses U-turn bridge.
Workers will tear down and build U-turns under I-10 at Bridge C.
Ongoing closure:
- South Desert left lane closed between Valley Chile and Vinton Steel
Detour: Stay in one lane, use Valley Chile entrance ramp, then one lane past Bridge D (Vinton Steel).
Workers will build walls 13 and 14.
Monday, March 9 to Saturday, March 14
Daily, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Nightly, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Lane changes on:
- I-10 eastbound and westbound between Anthony and Nashua
North and South Desert between Anthony and Nashua
Workers will pave concrete. Paving trucks will cross from median to I-10.
Monday, March 9 to Friday, March 13
From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (as needed)
- Antonio Street (Anthony Bridge) lane changes both ways
Bypass lanes east and westbound closed between Mesa and Redd
Detour: South Desert traffic goes through Thorn intersection to I-10 before Mesa. North Desert traffic goes through Thorn to I-10 before Redd.
Workers will finish fence and landscaping at Thorn.
Follow all detour signs. Work depends on weather.
