Labor Day weekend signifies the end of summer, and families across Mississippi will be traveling to enjoy their well-deserved break. The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) urges travelers to prioritize safe driving and to make smart choices.
“With increased traffic on Labor Day weekend, driving smart is crucial in ensuring a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend for all Mississippians,” said Brad White, MDOT Executive Director. “Do your part by buckling up, obeying the speed limit and not driving distracted or impaired.”
With highway traffic expected to increase, MDOT wants to provide maximum travel capacity and minimal construction delays. Crews and contractors will halt all non-emergent lane closures from Friday, August 29 to Monday, September 1. While most construction work will pause, motorists should be aware that some lane closures will remain in place to protect the traveling public. MDOT encourages motorists to treat them as active work zones.
