The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reports the following closures and detours for the I-10 Widening projects in El Paso. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
I-10 Widening West 1 Project
Monday, July 14 through Saturday, July 19 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
The I-10 Widening West I project involves alternate lane closures on both the North and South Desert sections between Anthony and Redd. These closures also affect Redd both east- and westbound at the North and South Desert intersection. The construction crews are engaged in electrical and miscellaneous construction work, aiming to enhance traffic flow and roadway safety.
Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 17 (9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – Nightly)
During these periods, I-10 East will be closed at the Vinton exit, with detours directing traffic through Vinton to Doniphan, then to Talbot, and Spur 16/Transmountain, allowing re-entry at the Redd entrance ramp. Additionally, both the I-10 East at Vinton entrance ramp and the Los Mochis entrance ramp will be closed as crews remove portable concrete traffic barriers to facilitate ongoing construction activities.
Monday, July 14 through Friday, July 18 (9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – Nightly)
The right lane of I-10 West between Mesa and Redd will be closed nightly for the placement of continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP). This significant infrastructure enhancement aims to ensure the longevity and durability of the roadway.
Continuous Closures Until Further Notice (24/7)
The South Desert section between Vinton and Transmountain remains closed, with a marked detour redirecting traffic via Vinton to Doniphan, Talbot, and Spur 16. Redd turnarounds are also closed, and detours guide traffic through the intersection at Redd. Meanwhile, the I-10 East at Mesa entrance ramp closure necessitates using CD lanes to re-enter I-10 East after Sunland Park. South Desert between Transmountain and Isela Rubalcava is reduced to one lane, and the Transmountain West-to-East turnaround is closed with intersection detour options.
I-10 Widening West 2 Project
Monday, July 14 through Saturday, July 19 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
For the I-10 Widening West 2 project, the I-10 east- and westbound lanes between Anthony and Nashua undergo alternate closures for necessary dirt work and removal of various materials. This comprehensive approach ensures the facilitation and progress of the surrounding infrastructure projects.
Monday, July 14 through Friday, July 18 (9 p.m. to 6 a.m. – Nightly)
During these times, the left lanes of both east- and westbound sections between Anthony and Nashua will be shut down for concrete placement, a critical step in laying the new pavement surface. These planned activities are essential for improving roadway quality and reducing long-term maintenance needs.
Extended Closure Through Spring 2026
The Valley Chili Road Turnaround remains closed as crews reconstruct and widen the bridge at that location. Detour paths have been established with traffic on North Desert proceeding to Anthony, TX for the North-to-South turnaround and traffic on South Desert heading to Vinton, TX for the South-to-North turnaround. This long-term project endeavors to significantly upgrade the bridge infrastructure to better serve regional traffic demands.
