I-10 Traffic Switches to New Lanes This Weekend Near Tucson

Drivers heading from northwest Pima County toward downtown Tucson will start using new eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 at Ina Road this weekend.

Beginning Saturday night, Dec. 16, Arizona Department of Transportation crews will begin moving eastbound traffic to the new lanes of I-10 as part of a two-year project to improve both I-10 and Ina Road. The work is expected to be complete the morning of Sunday, Dec. 17.

Also on Sunday, about one mile west of the freeway, Ina Road traffic will switch to a new bridge over the Santa Cruz River. This bridge will carry one lane of traffic in each direction while the old bridge is removed and a second new bridge is built in its place.

The I-10/Ina Road interchange project, which remains on schedule approaching the halfway point, will add a lane in each direction to both I-10 and Ina Road and includes a bridge to carry Ina Road traffic over I-10 and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The improvements will allow traffic to move more smoothly through the area while enhancing safety.

Westbound I-10 traffic will switch to the new eastbound pavement in mid- to late January. ADOT will maintain three lanes of traffic in each direction until the project is completed in early 2019. When the work is complete, I-10 will have four lanes in each direction, Ina Road two lanes in each direction, and there will be two bridges over the Santa Cruz River, each carrying two lanes of traffic.

Long Term Ramp Closure on I-95 in Jacksonville

The Florida Department of Transportation reports that the I-95/I-10 construction project in Jacksonville will have a long-term closure of the ramp from Interstate 95 southbound to Stockton Street for approximately one year starting November 13.

The closure may extend longer than a year due to weather, holidays and other unforeseen delays.

As part of the project’s operational improvements, crews will be constructing new dedicated Stockton and Irene Street ramps in an overall effort to reduce weaving and improve operations on Interstate 10 at Interstate 95.

During this extended closure, motorists on Interstate 95 southbound can take the Forest Street exit to Margaret Street which turns into Edison Avenue or take Interstate 10 westbound and use the McDuff Avenue exit to Edison Avenue – both detours will reconnect to Stockton Street.

Detour signs will be posted to help redirect motorists affected by the closure as follows:

Interstate 95 southbound to Forest Street detour:

  • Motorists traveling on Interstate 95 southbound can take the Forest Street exit and make a right onto Forest Street then a left onto Margaret Street which turns into Edison Avenue which will reconnect to Stockton Street.

Interstate 95 southbound to Interstate 10 westbound detour:

  • Motorists traveling on Interstate 95 southbound can also take Interstate 10 westbound to the McDuff Avenue exit. Once at the exit, make a right on McDuff Avenue, then make another right on Edison Avenue which will reconnect with Stockton Street.

The project began in May with completion anticipated in summer 2020, depending on weather, holidays and unforeseen circumstances.

The ongoing Interstate 10 pavement-improvement project between State Route 587 (Casa Blanca Road) and the Gila River bridge south of Chandler will require overnight lane restrictions during the week of Oct. 15-20, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes while the following restrictions are in place:

East and westbound Interstate 10 narrowed to one lane in each direction in areas between SR 587 and the Gila River bridge from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights (Oct. 15-19) for the I-10 resurfacing project. Please allow extra travel time.

Alternate routes are available depending on direction of travel and destination. Riggs Road will serve as one local alternate route.
