I-10 Work in Louisiana to Close Westbound Lane Exit Nightly Through August 30

Baton Rouge— Workers will implement a total closure of the westbound Siegen Lane exit from Interstate 10 westbound during overnight hours Friday, August 24 through Thursday, August 30. The closures will begin each night at 9 p.m. and will last until 5 a.m. the following morning. The closure is necessary to allow crews to re-pave the exit with a new surface.

Motorists traveling westbound on I-10 who wish to access Siegen Lane should continue west and exit at Bluebonnet/Mall of Louisiana Boulevard (Exit 162B); turn left on to the Mall of Louisiana Boulevard then turn left onto the I-10 eastbound frontage road and travel to the intersection with Siegen Lane.

The contractor will also close the right lane on I-10 eastbound from just before to just after the Siegen Lane Overpass on Friday, August 24 and Saturday, August 25 between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night for paving.

Bluebonnet Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. each night beginning Sunday, August 26 through Thursday, August 30 as crews work on demolition of the old overpass.

All construction work is weather dependent and subject to change in the event of inclement weather. In addition, the Geaux Wider contractor for the I-10 widening project is working multiple shifts each day to complete the project by early 2013. As a result, work schedules may change depending on the amount of work completed during each shift. The public is encouraged to monitor daily updates by visiting the Geaux Wider website, following us on twitter, visiting our facebook page or signing-up for project email updates.

Emergency vehicles will have access through the work zone at all times during the closures.

Media personnel needing access to the interstate work zones for photos or video must first contact the Geaux Wider team at (225) 906-1448. For safety reasons, no unscheduled or unaccompanied visits are permitted.

The Geaux Wider program is a multi-year construction initiative designed to increase capacity, improve safety and enhance mobility on Interstates 10 and 12 in East Baton Rouge and Livingston Parishes.

The following interstate segments are being widened to six lanes under the Geaux Wider program:

• Interstate 10, from the I-10/12 split to Siegen Lane.

• Interstate 10, from the Siegen Lane interchange to Highland Road.

• Interstate 12, from the O’Neal Lane interchange to Pete’s Highway.

• Interstate 12 eastbound, from Pete’s Highway to Juban Road.

• Interstate 12, from Juban Road to the Walker/LA 447 interchange.

Completion of the entire program is tentatively scheduled for 2013.
